Can I Make the Weight Class?
Making weight is NOT just about making weight. It is about doing this in a way that does not compromise training performance and health in the lead up to weigh in, and that you can effectively recover from post weigh in to perform to your maximum potential … to show the hard work you have put in to training, and show how good you are!
This 20 page guide helps you understand whether your body is likely to have the physiological capacity to make a weight class, make it in a given timeframe, and make it without significant adverse impact to health or performance.
The guide explores what bodyweight is, how it can be manipulated, and then the step by step calculation you can use to better understand the drop in weight your body may be capable of – whilst maintaining health and performance.
It is not a guarantee: some athletes will be more sensitive to changes in bodyweight and body composition and see adverse impacts with lesser changes, whereas some athletes will be less sensitive and able to push greater changes without adverse impacts. But it provides a starting point to inform your understanding of viable weight classes for you at this point in time!
